World No Tobacco Day

Be the Champ – Knock Out Tobacco

On the occasion of World No Tobacco Day, the interns of Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University Medical College, Pune, in collaboration with the Hridayamrit Foundation, conducted an impactful Tobacco Awareness Campaign across various healthcare settings including Primary Health Centers (PHCs), the Urban Health Training Centre (UHTC), and the Rural Health Training Centre (RHTC) in Pune, Maharashtra, India.

The campaign focused on educating the community about the harmful effects of tobacco consumption and encouraging individuals to adopt a tobacco-free lifestyle. Interns displayed awareness posters at each center and actively engaged with patients and visitors through brief educational talks. These pep talks highlighted the short-term and long-term consequences of tobacco use, the addictive nature of nicotine, and the how to quit tobacco.

In addition, undergraduate students from the institution enhanced the campaign’s outreach by performing a street-play. The skit conveyed a powerful message about the dangers of tobacco in a relatable and culturally sensitive manner, capturing the attention of the community. The event served as a meaningful step toward community sensitization and public health promotion, reinforcing the importance of preventive healthcare measures.

The Hridayamrit Foundation commends the enthusiasm and initiative shown by the students and looks forward to supporting more such student-led health awareness programs in the future.
