Primordial Prevention Starts Young: Educating Children for Heart-Healthy Futures
On the occasion of Children’s Day, our team conducted a dedicated educational awareness session for the students of 7th and 8th grade at Bharati Vidyapeeth School, Pune, with a focus on early prevention and health literacy.
Through engaging and interactive learning methods, students were introduced to key concepts including:
A basic understanding of how the heart works
The importance of adopting healthy habits early to reduce future risk of heart disease
The role of primordial prevention in combating Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) before risk factors develop
How everyday lifestyle choices related to nutrition, physical activity, and wellbeing influence long-term cardiovascular health
The session emphasized that prevention begins with awareness, and that empowering children with the right knowledge can shape healthier individuals, families, and communities in the years to come. This initiative was proudly organised and led by the committed medical students of Bharati Vidyapeeth Medical College, Pune, who acted as mentors and role models-demonstrating how peer-led education can inspire younger students to take ownership of their health from an early age. Together, we strive to nurture a generation that is informed, prevention-focused, empowered, and heart-healthy, reinforcing the belief that meaningful cardiovascular prevention must start early.
